Abstinence from mind/mood altering chemicals is only one part of recovery. We recognize the need for a holistic approach, which promotes both physical and mental wellness. We utilize a collaborative process which allows each individual to have a voice in their client-centered recovery plan. We understand that recovery is not a "one size fits all" concept. Therefore, each recovery plan is customized to the specific needs of the individual. Our goal is to assist in removing obstacles which may prevent a lifestyle of recovery. By traveling your path of recovery with you, we will help motivate engagement in the treatment process, assist in developing and enhancing life skills, and facilitate independence through positive change.
What is RSS (Recovery Support Services)?
Recovery Support Services is a peer to peer service offered to individuals seeking recovery from addiction.
Certified Recovery Specialists (CRS)
help guide individuals in establishing recovery supports, accessing treatment, and getting their basic needs met. Certified Recovery Specialists draw on their personal experience in collaborating with individuals in the office, in treatment, and in the community to removed obstacles to getting and staying clean and sober. The collaborative journey between the individual and their CRS will address basic needs, as well as enhance the individual's efforts to get and stay clean. They will provide you with support and guidance, and advocate for you when needed. They can introduce you to recovery supports within the local community (12-step groups, yoga, martial arts, religious groups, art classes, etc.), and even participate in
these activities with you. There are many pathways to recovery and a CRS will explore them with you.
What is a Certified Recovery Specialist (CRS)?
These are individuals who have a shared recovery experience, either by being in recovery themselves, or by having a loved one in recovery. They are certified through Pennsylvania Certification Board after numerous trainings and an exam. Areas in which they may be able to assist you:
- Accessing support groups
- Getting linked to recovery supportive activities
- Basic needs (food, clothing, etc.)
- Applying for health insurance
- Literacy classes
- Bus passes
- Housing assistance
Why should I work with a Recovery Specialist?
If you have tried to get engaged in recovery before and haven't been able to, or feel you could really use some extra support and guidance with the journey, then working with a CRS is for you.
